Abandon hydroelectric plans inadvertently create a prime fishing spot. This spot is also a dumping ground for large rocks either dredged up from other parts of the river or building projects of years past. Unfortunately the amount and average size of the rub rubble mixed with the less than tame, at times, nature of the Potomac in general creates some extremely dangerous rapids especially during storm surges. As a result, a large helicopter pad was erected to aid in rescues.

A scenic trail for a casual hike and views of abandon infrastructure. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal once serviced this area providing transportation of goods and supplies. It's main task was floating mined Coal from the Allegheny Mts to Georgetown, Md then out to the coast running parallel to the Potomac River. The canal started in Cumberland, Md and ran 185 miles to tide level seas in Georgetown, Md.

A few sights from around the Capitol Mall. We set out for a day of museums but my knife and contraband weren't permitted for entry and I was really adamant on riding the train in so I didn't have a vehicle handy to stash.

Pretty dope spot to catch your fill of a number of things. Everything form Hiking, Climbing, to secluded smoke spots. Miles of trails weave in and out of the sandstone ledges originally carved out by ancient glacial activity. The caves of the area also played a roll in The Underground Railroad by providing temporary safe harbor for escaped slaves traveling through to Canada.
